Katrina

In the end of August, 2005, Hurricane Katrina, a Category Four hurricane, hit the gulf of Mexico especially areas in south of the states of Louisiana and the Mississippi.  With wind speed that reached 145 mph, Katrina had a direct devastating effect in the areas it hit.  Thousands lost their lives; hundreds of thousands more lost their homes and livelihoods - especially in the beautiful and charming city of New Orleans, LA.  Katrina is the worst natural disaster that hit the United States so far.  The recovery efforts will take years and cost billions of dollars.  Despite the heroic efforts of many at all levels, more can be done.
